Battery performance

To obtain reliable performance use only AAA Energizer Ultimate Lithium 8x batteries (L91). For optimal performance, please try and utilize SPOT GEN3 in locations with a clear view of the sky with the logo side up.

Extreme heat/cold and trying to send messages indoors or under extreme canopies can drain on battery life. If the On/Off indicator light blinks red this is a warning your battery is about to die. Always carry extra batteries with you. Test your SPOT device before each trip by sending a Check-in/OK message.

Proper battery selection is critical for best performance.

How it works

Advanced Theft-Alert Tracking for Anything

SPOT Trace sends messages to communication satellites, which route to satellite antennas. The satellite antennas and a global network direct the messages to the appropriate network and these messages are delivered to your phone or computer, allowing you to monitor your asset and even track its GPS coordinates in near real-time via OTP. Because SPOT Trace uses satellite technology, it can communicate from some of the most remote locations around the world. Never let your most valuable asset disappear without a trace.

For reliable performance, use AAA EnergizerTM Ultimate Lithium 8x batteries (L92), NiMH rechargeable batteries, or line power. Using USB line power will NOT charge rechargeable batteries and is NOT waterproof unless using the custom USB cable (sold separately). A battery low text/email can be set up on the account. Colder conditions and extreme heat can impact battery life. Once a low battery message is received, go to your asset ASAP and replace the batteries. Non-lithium batteries will work with SPOT TRACE but are not recommended for optimal performance. Using non-recommended battery types may degrade the performance of your SPOT TRACE message transmissions.

SPOT TRACE performance and battery life may be degraded in operating environments where the SPOT TRACE GPS chip must take a longer time to acquire your asset's GPS location, such as trying to send a GPS location under dense foliage. For optimal performance, operate your SPOT TRACE with the logo pointed toward the sky and avoid metal obstructions.

SPOT TRACE is designed to be durable for outdoor use. Dropping the unit on hard surfaces (while not recommended) should not damage it, but can cause a loss of power and may damage the batteries. Power loss turns off your SPOT TRACE, stopping any current mode of operation. If dropped, perform a system test on the device by following the steps on page 6 of this guide. If the system test fails, replace the batteries.

How do I replace the batteries in my SPOT Trace?

Follow these steps to replace the batteries in your Trace:

Loosen the screws to open the back cover.
Install 4 AAA EnergizerTM Ultimate Lithium 8x batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries.
Replace cover ensuring that the gasket is lined up and free of debris. Tighten screws with a small screwdriver. It is important that you fully tighten the back cover to maintain SPOT TRACE's waterproof seal.
Keep your batteries installed, even when using line power, to ensure proper system performance in the event line power is cut or should fail.

Please Note: NiMH batteries cannot be charged within the SPOT TRACE unit using line power, and SPOT Trace is NOT waterproof while line powered unless using the custom USB cable (sold separately).

SPOT 1

The SPOT 1 Satellite GPS Messenger provides a vital line of communication with friends and family when you want it, and emergency assistance when you need it. Using 100% satellite technology, SPOT works virtually anywhere in the world, even where cell phones do not, all with the push of a button.

Functions

• SOS: Use this function In the event of a life threatening or other critical emergency to notify emergency services of your GPS location and that you need assistance. The GEOS International Emergency Response Center alerts the appropriate agencies worldwide for example contacting 9-1-1 responders in North America and 1-1-2 responders in Europe.
• Help: In the event of a non-life threatening emergency, you can use this function to notify your personal contacts that you need assistance. Additional SPOT Assist services can be purchased and programmed to your Help button as well. When activated with SPOT Assist, the Help button will notify professional services either on the land or water. SPOT has partnered with national service providers to offer non-life threatening assistance.
• Check-in/OK: This feature allows you to let your friends and family know that all is OK with a pre-programmed message along with your GPS location. With a push of a button a message is sent via email or SMS to up to 10 pre-determined contacts and your waypoint is stored in your SPOT account for later reference. Your stored waypoints can be easily integrated into a SPOT Shared Page or SPOT Adventure account.
• Custom Message: This feature allows you to let your friends and family now receive a custom message along with your GPS location with a push of a button. Use this feature as a secondary OK message or transfer your personal help alert to this message function if you are using a SPOT Assist service on your Help button.
• Track Progress: Start/stop tracking at any time using your SPOT deviceon our OTP. You can also mark a Reference Point or send Check-in/OK messages from specific locations while in Track Progress mode.
• SPOT Assist: SPOT Assist allows you to notify third-party towing professionals of your request for assistance on land or water. with our OTP.

Intrinsically Safe SPOT

The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger (IS) is a GPS-enabled personal satellite messaging and emergency communications device providing a simple way to help address lone or remote worker safety. Using the same form factor as our consumer-based SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger,

SPOT IS has been re-engineered and certified to meet the requirements of hazardous work environments. The easily identifiable blue SPOT IS is certified Intrinsically Safe for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups A-D environments under UL 913 and CSA C22.2 No. 157. These certifications allow companies operating in potentially combustible environments where the presence of flammable gases or vapors may exist, such as transportation, government, natural resources and oil and gas, to take advantage of SPOT messaging functionality. Certification was completed by MET Laboratories, Inc.

Functions

• SOS: Workers can use this function in the event of a life threatening or other critical emergency to notify emergency services of their GPS location. Once SOS is activated, SPOT IS will acquire its coordinates from the GPS network, and send that location along with a distress message every 5 minutes to the GEOS Emergency Response Center.
• Help: For less critical emergencies, workers can press this button to send pre-programmed requests for help to their head office or supervisor for example. Up to 10 contacts can be pre-programmed to the Help button sending the alert message via e-mail or SMS.
• Check-in/OK: For casual check-in messages, workers simply need to press the Check-in/OK button to advise employers that they have arrived at a location and/or to keep them posted on where they are at specified intervals. SPOT IS sends a Check-in/OK message once with the longitude and latitude and a pre-programmed message to the predetermined contacts. Up to 10 contacts can receive the Check-in/OK message via e-mail or SMS.
• Custom Message: The Custom Message function operates exactly like the Check-in/OK message. SPOT IS provides a Custom Message in case the user would like to pre-program different messages. This extra line of communication provides flexibility and functionality for the work environment.
• Track Progress: This feature allows employers to track the location of workers even beyond cellular using Google Maps. Account holders have the ability to set up a SPOT Shared Page which allows the SPOT IS GPS locations to be shared easily through a public or private web page. Once activated, SPOT IS acquires the GPS location every ten minutes for 24 hours or until canceled. Track Progress also helps employers and workers in uncharted areas to record safe routes for future reference.

SmartOne LP B

Designed for the intelligent management of powered and non-powered ἀxed and mobile assets, the SmartOne LP (line-powered) is a practical solution for tracking asset location, reporting unauthorized movement, engine runtime reporting and major fault monitoring as well as a multitude of other applications. Track intermediate bulk containers, vehicles and boats as a solution to improve your assets operating efἀciency and security.

The SmartOne LP can be line-powered (operates on external power) or in the absence, interruption or failure of line-power, the SmartOne LP will automatically switch to battery back-up to ensure transmissions continue. When using line-power, the user has maximum flxibility in messaging frequency allowing for regular monitoring of asset location.

The SmartOne LP utilizes motion sensors, comparative GPS positions and custom configured sensos to gather and transmit asset status information. Each SmartOne LP is configured to trak its assets specific needs and prvide intermediate and emergency alerts by email or text with our OTP.
