Wide range of performance options
The BGAN service comes in a range of small, lightweight satellite terminals, with a choice of performance options to suit different operational needs. Standard terminals are highly portable and can be used both indoors and outdoors. The smallest terminals, not much larger than a paperback book, are designed to suit single users. Larger ones, the size of a laptop, offer more accessories and better bandwidth per-formance to fit mobile users requiring high-speed applications. We offer you all existing BGAN terminals and services.

BGAN, mobile broadband for you |

Global Coverage BGAN is delivered via three satellites that make up the Inmarsat-4 (I-4) network. All three I-4 satellites cover all surfaces of the earth, except for extreme polar regions. It is one network meaning you can establish a broadband or voice connection wherever your job or travel takes you.
Excellent In Stormy Weather: All BGAN terminales are using the L-band for reception and transmission (the L-band has a very long wavelength), it is able penetrate through clouds and other atmospheric condition far better than large satellite dishes.

BGAN has been designed for simplicity The highly intuitive user interface is standard across all BGAN terminals and it takes less than five minutes to establish a voice or data connection. So simple in fact, no technical expertise is required to set up. |
|
|
|
BGAN terminals Inmarsat voice and data services are accessed by a range of portable, fixed or vehicular BGAN terminals, which provide features and performance options to suit different operational needs. The portable terminals can easily fit inside a backpack alongside a laptop and takes less than five minutes to get a voice and data connection, with no technical expertise needed. Or you can mount vehicular BGAN onto trucks or vehicles and communicate on-the-move from one location to the next. |
|
|
|
Network reliability and longevity The availability of our satellites and ground network exceed 99.9% so connectivity can be depended upon to access your business-critical applications. The geostationary location of our satellites, mean that service is not affected by connectivity outages, often experienced by terrestrial or cellular technology in extreme weather or when comms go down following a natural or man-made disaster. The Inmarsat-4 network have an operational life well into the 2020s, a claim no competitor of ours can make. |

BGAN Network Security |
|
We offer several ways to control security over your BGAN network connection: 1. Firewall Controls, custom made for each BGAN account. 2. IPSec VPN over the Internet from HQ to the Inmarsat NOC. 3. Private BGAN Network via a leased line from HQ to the Inmarsat NOC. 4. ISDN Private line, an alternative to leased line private networking.

BGAN Firewall Controls
|
|
Firewall rules can be set up in minutes to limit what a BGAN terminal communicates with on the Internet. Unwanted traffic from any connect computer (such as Windows Update) is blocked from transmitting over the satellite network, as well as blocking malicious traffic from the Internet. Firewall rules can save you thousands of dollars in service costs. Comprehensive whitelists and blacklists can be created for individual BGAN accounts.
BGAN Firewall
- Control traffic between the BGAN terminal and the Internet
- BGAN Firewall Rules is a Free Service offered to all our BGAN subscribers
We offer BGAN Firewall Traffic Controls that sit between the satellite network and the Internet. Simply send us a list the IP addresses that a BGAN terminal is allowed to communicate with (whitelist) and deny all other traffic. This simple yet effective control slashes unauthorized BGAN usage, and protects the BGAN terminal from malicious incoming traffic. Now, outgoing traffic from background applications such as Windows update (which may transfer over 300 Megabytes), is blocked when any laptop is connected over the BGAN network. Unexpected and unwanted charges to the BGAN service are eliminated. At your request, we will apply custom rules to each of your BGAN terminal or Sim Card. Just let us know what IP addresses or domain names you wish to limit traffic through.
Creating BGAN Traffic Rules Traffic rules would be created for each individual BGAN Sim Card. Multiple rules may establish complete whitelists or blacklists. A typical whitelist is that allows limited traffic FROM the Internet TO the BGAN terminal. Whitelists are a common rule since they limit traffic ONLY between certain IP addresses, such as between a remote BGAN terminal IP address and a corporate server IP address.
There are 4 possible traffic types that can be configured:
- Whitelist to allow listed IP traffic from the Internet to the BGAN terminal
- Whitelist to allow listed IP traffic from the BGAN terminal to the Internet
- Blacklist to deny listed IP traffic from the Internet to the BGAN terminal
- Blacklist to deny listed IP traffic from the BGAN terminal to the Internet

VPN INTERCONNECT
|
|
Our BGAN VPN solution functions by means of a secure interconnection between your central network hub and your mobile Inmarsat BGAN or Fleetbroadband terminal. There are two benefits to this scenario
- since the VPN terminates at the NOC, speeds will not see a performance drop over the satellite network, which is a common problem with VPN over satellite
- there is no need to configure individual remote equipment with VPN equipment or software since the VPN terminates at the NOC. All BGAN traffic is routed at the NOC through the VPN portal to your HQ.
A Private BGAN Network We can establish a leased line or MPLS connection from the NOC to your HQ. In the latter case, we can save you the hassle of arranging international connections. Any solution can be discussed, and applications are integrated by our engineering team, to ensure that if you are developing a worldwide network, we will offer you the best and most cost effective solution. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a mechanism in high-performance telecommunications networks that directs data from one network node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network addresses, avoiding complex lookups in a routing table. The labels identify virtual links (paths) between distant nodes rather than endpoints. MPLS can encapsulate packets of various network protocols. MPLS supports a range of access technologies, including T1/E1, ATM, Frame Relay, and DSL.
