VSAT 1,2 - 3,8m mobile Auto-Acquiring Antenna System |
To meet the increasing demand for mobile communication services we have developed a drive-away auto-acquiring system for medium and large size VSATs (1,2m - 3,8m).
This system can be mounted on top of a car or installed on a trailer depending on the personal requirements. Also a fix installation is available.
The motorized backstructure is hot dip galvanized to withstand even the harshest environments. It connects to any brand of our VSAT antennas. The complete unit is turned by two backlash free drives in azimuth and elevation allowing the unit to move 360 degrees in azimuth and 180 elevation. Due to the nature of the utilised drives and motors the pointing accuracy is better than 0,01 making this motorization suitable for all frequency bands (C, X, Ku, Ka Band). The complete structure comes with fixation for a car roof, trailer or flat concrete mounting. The whole system is controlled either by our 500 ACU or by an 3000 auto-pointing controller both utilizing GPS, Compass and a DVB Receiver to drive to a satellite to identify it and to optimize its pointing. |
Features:
- Auto-Acquiring system for medium and large VSAT Terminals (1,2 - 3,8m diameter) of all frequency bands (C, X, Ku, Ka Band)
- Car, Trailer or Fixed Mounting available
- Hot dip galvanized structure for harsh environments
- Ultra wide movement range: 360 Azimuth, 180 Elevation and 360 Polarization
- Ultraprecise motorization, Zero backlash
- Pointing accuracy better then 0,01

VSAT Autopointing Overview |
Design |
The auto-pointing system consists of a motorized antenna system and an advanced antenna control unit. |
Motorized Antenna System (ODU) |
The motorized antenna system includes a VSAT antenna of 0,6 to 3,8m size, a 2 or 3 axis antenna motorization, a GPS Receiver to determine position, a 2 axis inclinometer to measure the antennas slant and a compass for the heading. A DVB-S2 receivers is also incorporated to search, identify and peak on a satellite. The antennas motors are driven by intelligent Motor Controllers allowing them to drive at optimum speed with variable acceleration deceleration ramps so that start and stop are without backlash. The Motor control units are connected in line using a Bus system called the CAN Bus. The sensors and the receivers are connected an Ethernet Hub therefore two Cables CAN Bus and Ethernet are connecting the ODU (complete Motorization System) with the IDU (520 ACU). |
Auto-pointing Antenna Control Unit (IDU) |
The 520 is the Auto-pointing Antenna control unit. It incorporates the 7" touchscreen controller to initiate auto-pointing procedure but also for all other tasks as setting and programming satellites or driving the axis manually. The Controller shows also the status and displays error messages |
Auto-pointing Controller with integrated Spectrum Display |
A second controller is incorporated in the 520 dealing with all matters of the DVB Receiver. Optionally also a second 7" Display can be included to display additional DVB Receiver information or a Spectrum graph display is requested (see above). Both units the Antenna controller and the DVB Controller are interconnected to share information. |
Auto-pointing Operation |
To auto align an antenna to satellite several settings have to be done. In the Antenna Controller you have to set the antenna size|and operation band to determine the step size for the tracking (fine-tuning of the antennas pointing). In case no GPS has been built-in(the unit is a stationary unit) you will have also to set the GPS Coordinates of this unit. |
The Autotrack setting has to be activated. |
The search window has to be set properly to avoid pointing to the wrong satellite. |
The signal Input has to be to determine whether you use the built-in beacon receiver as signal& Identification sources or our external Modems. |
If the target satellite is not selectable a new satellite has to be created by setting the name, the DVB frequencies and the necessary LNB settings (Voltage and/or Tone). |
Back in the Main Operation Page you have to select the satellite and press start. |
The unit will receive via DVB controller the GPS, orientation and tilt data from the outdoor sensors and based on the selected satellite will calculate the target position of the satellite. Then the unit will drive from its STOW position to the designated target .
On Point the satellite signal level will be measured and displayed. If it strong enough for identification also the Satellite ID and LOCK can be displayed.
A Tracking algorithm will start to optimize the alignment and peak the signal to an optimum level. After peak-up has been completed the unit will go into standby await further commands.
